Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15 and is intended to showcase and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans who are descended from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The celebration first began as only one week in 1968, under President Lyndon Johnson, and was extended to a 30-day period in 1988 by Ronald Reagan.
